Chain knockers without a drill head clean well but can stall in front of a solid blockage. Drill-headed chains handle both. The drill head at the front bores through the obstruction while the chain cleans the pipe wall behind it.

There are three versions here, and the difference matters. The Drill Headed Plain Chain is for PVC pipes. No carbide tips, so it won't damage plastic. The Drill Headed Croco Chain and Drill Headed X-Tip Chain are for metal and ceramic pipes, with carbide cutting elements that handle roots, scale, and rust. The X-Tip is the more aggressive of the two.

All three are available across a range of pipe diameters and shaft sizes. If you're not clearing an active blockage and just need to descale an open pipe, a standard chain without a drill head is usually the better tool for that.
