Plain Chain (Light)

Plain chains have no carbide tips, which makes them the right choice for PVC pipes. If you're working in metal or ceramic pipes and need a chain with hard metal tips, take a look at the X-Tip Chain (Light) or Croco Chain (Light) instead.

The light version uses 3.5mm stainless steel chain links. The thinner links need less torque to spin up, which is why this chain pairs well with 6mm (¼″) and 8mm (⁵⁄₁₆″) shafts. Some 3-chained configurations are also available for 10mm (⅜″) shafts, covering DN50 (2″) through DN150 (6″).

The chain type you choose within this product depends on what you're trying to do. The mini is a single-hub tool with two short chains, no second hub, and a completely different from the rest of the range. It's built for DN32 (1¼″) and DN50 (2″) pipes and works well in tight or hard-to-reach spots. Some use it as a first-entry tool to open a path before sending in something larger. It handles soft blockages, though it's not built for heavy cleaning.

The 1-chained, 2-chained, and 3-chained variants all use two hubs with chains running between them. The chain count is a tradeoff between flexibility and cleaning speed. One chain is more flexible, easier on the drill, and better for navigating bends, but it covers the pipe wall more slowly and has some wobble since nothing is balancing it on the other side. Three chains clean faster and more evenly but need more torque and are stiffer. Two chains sits in between. The working diameter of all two-hub variants is adjustable: loosen the hex screws on either hub and slide it along the shaft to change how wide the chains reach, then tighten the screws again.

This chain clears blockages and does general cleaning in PVC. You can use it for descaling too, but a circular chain will get through hard deposits like limescale and urine scale faster, since it contacts the full pipe circumference at once. If the blockage is solid enough that the chain stalls, the drill-headed version is the better pick.
